Skagit County in Winter

We spent a night at Wild Iris B&B in LaConnor up in Washington State's Skagit County this month.  We had thought to have a warm vacation this month, but instead are staying a couple of overnights with fireplaces nearby.  The Snow Geese, which we saw in late November, seem to be gone, but there are still a lot of swans and cygnets in the fallow fields.  We thought we might head up to see eagles in the hills, but the weather was foggy.  The only eagle we got a picture of was this one on the beach at Fort Casey.

We saw many more eagles flying and sitting morosely in trees.  I was impressed by the number of immature eagles.  For those who don't know, the Skagit River salmon run attracts eagles from all over.  Some years hundreds of eagles perch on the banks of the river and feast on the salmon after they spawn.
About a mile down the road was this kingfisher.
